"It's Personal."

If you have something you would like to tell or ask me, why not post a comment here? This thread is set for me to review comments before they appear. They're just between you and me. Well I might read them out loud and they could be overheard by my pets.

I would love if you would comment on my blog posts of course. But if you just want to leave a quick message about any and everything, please feel free...

I recommend everyone have a blog so that others can contact them.

Have a great day!

Critical Poetry Thoughts

Someone criticized my poetry,
He said he could not understand it
He said that it did not make sense
He said that it is kind of juvenile
As I make it like a conversation.

Oh really well let me tell you what I really think!
I don't really know why I write poetry this way.
I just began and it is hard to change.

This person suggested I need to add description
That I had to add visuals
That I had to describe the senses
That I had to let people feel for themselves
And not tell them only how I feel.

But like a zebra
If I were to be covered in white paint
Eventually the stripes would reappear
As the paint would fade.

Nature has many an animal that has spots
Supposedly they cannot change them
Should I count myself in their kingdom?
But I have many more facets as I am a human.

Oh then there is that lizard
Made famous by Boy George and Culture Club,
Come on and sing it!
I know you want to!
quot;Karma, Karma, Karma, Karma, Chameleon".
Its skin changes with its surroundings.
Oh were I that adaptable!
Perhaps some day I will be.

But now that I have vented,
Now that my pot has gone from boiling to simmering,
I will just tell myself in a soft whisper.
It is all good.
It is actually constructive criticism.
It is just an added piece of wisdom
To which I can pick at as I please.

I may one day write a poem with just imagery.
I may one day write a poem that does not voice,
the way I speak,
I may one day write a poem that does not rhyme at all.
Who would I be then?
Would I still be me?
Oh seriously,
I am not that dense
I am just going through the motions
Until this poem ends.

No Further Pursuits. A Poem

I'm thinking of calling it quits.
I've made too many mistakes.
I need time to do
What a friend suggested
And recalibrate.
And give my heart a rest.

It's been a waste of time.
But a lesson learnt too
No matter how hard I try
They leave and go away
Usually back to an ex
They swore with whom
They were through.
But they lied
Or changed their mind.
I'm tired of being pushed aside
Or playing second fiddle.

So for the foreseeable future
I will take my leave
From further pursuits
And bid them adieu.

Sensibly Dealing With Emptiness A Poem

Written in 2015

Something someone said to me,
It made sense,
Once it sunk in.
He said that I might have an emptiness
But I should not fill it with just anything.

It is true
I have been finding distractions
I have been filling the void with nonsense
Stuff that had little value
That I would not like for the long haul.

I am talking in abstracts,
I am not being specific
Do you really need to know the details
Of my utter idiocy
And just how stupid
I have been lately?

Suffice it to say
That this talk of sensibility
Was very unexpected,
It was not welcome then
I shooed it away as soon as it was mentioned,
But later I thought that I could indeed
Be a better me,
Be a better version,
If I just followed his advice,
And just showed that I cared enough
To be a little more patient,
And a little less desperate.

Reaching The Coldest Heart A Poem

Written in 2015

How to reach the coldest heart,
How to thaw it for a start,
Is there some magic word I should say?
Or some magic wand I should wave?

Would it all start with an open mind?
Would it be helpful to have one's eyes open wide?
Would that a smile could be the key
Would that an endearment uttered acted similarly.

The words I so want to know,
Yes they would mimic "Open Sesame."
Once I learn them and say them,
Oh it would be for the world's benefit!

To have one more open minded,
Open hearted person among the masses,
Is that not what the world needs?
More lovers and less fighters,
Yes surely that is the better formula.
We need more generations who behave thusly
Less who encounter struggle and strife daily.

Flowery words and acts of affection,
They can only be part of the equation
The coldest heart has to know
That living that way is to his detriment.

I could just tell them the scientific evidence,
That when someone is in love
They produce endorphins.
I could tell them that it lowers their blood pressure
That being angry is just the opposite.

But telling them requires something
It requires that they listen.
And my shouting is not the answer,
As what I say can be blocked out
But maybe, just maybe
They hear a sliver or a smidgeon.

Open Sesame!
Open your mind!
Open your heart!
I will treat it gingerly
I will try to nurture the fledgling feelings.
I will treat it like a rare species
I will treat it like a delicacy.
All until you get the idea that a heart full of love
That a mind that is open
Is your preferred and only option.

You Closed Yourself Off A Poem

I can't figure you out.
I guess questioning you
Will not bear fruit.
For you have closed
Yourself off
And have zippered
Your mouth shut.

I want to say once again
How sorry I am
For what I have said
Or something I did
If you have taken offense.

I am not perfect.
I would not expect
That of others.
It is quite the high standard
Meant for saints
And angels
Of which I know none
Presently on this earth.

So if you ever tell me
What made you go away
I would greatly appreciate
The update.
Maybe my saying
I sorry
Will have some sway...

A Spirit's Grace A Poem

I happened upon the news
Facebook and it's algorithm
Kept it from me
Like a guarded secret
Why do you stop
The flow of information
That can be vital?

My friend passed away
In December
A massive heart attack
And stroke
Left him unconscious
And on life support
His family decided
He would want to go
To another place
That only spirits grace.

Salsa practice
Can you imagine?
Who can say
They died doing
Something they loved?
It is kind of a classic joke
But in my friend's case
It became true.

He was unique
Anyone who met him
Could take that away
He made people laugh
With his sense of humor
Sometimes it was too esoteric
As he was kind of
A computer geek
As well as student
Of English Lit.

I lost touch for many years
We went our separate ways
When he made contact again
I was elated
A rope to the past
Thrown from him
Aaahh the reminiscing .
It made for many laughs.

I wrote a poem
For his birthday
About he and another friend
How we were an
Unlikely Freshman Trio.
As our backgrounds
Were so different.

He had many friends
He had two sons
From his marriage.
He had some strained
Familial relations
That caused him some pain
But he kept on moving
Only occasionally
Letting the bitterness
Take hold
But only for a moment.
For he had things
He wanted to do!

And he did what he enjoyed!
He wrote plays
And he performed
He took up Zumba
And then became
An instructor.
Then onto dancing!
Yes he took up Salsa!
And he worked
His butt off!
He was of the mindset
That what he did not
Have in natural talent
He could make up for
With practice.

And the kindness!
That never left him.
The openness
To friend others
It was so evident.
He had a look about him
Most definitely not menacing
Kind of like a darker version
Of an elf
As he was of Indian descent
And not tall.

He was a lover
And not a fighter
Except for what was right
As he was honest.
He brought out the best
In others
As he could dole
Out the compliments
And any shortcomings
He couched
In humor.

What a gift!
What a light
To the world!
That now is lost.
But perhaps not?
Could it live in
In our hearts?
I think so.

The Harsh Truth? A Poem

Can I take it?
Can I swallow
Bitter medicine?
The truth
When you say
You are being honest
Has that quality.

It hurts initially.
I want to gag.
But I am thinking
It might make
Me better
In the long run.
At least that is
What is your intention.
Am I right?
You don't want
To cause me pain.

You want to see me smile.
You want to see me happy.
You don't want me to frown
And don't want me crying.
But the latter
May very well
Be my response.

So steel my spine
With a warning
Or take my mind
Off what is to come
With a joke
Before you poke
And prod
Me with a harsh truth.

The Twain Of Us A Poem

I live in my head.
I am cerebral
In my bent.
Versus you
Who can
Be considered
Action oriented.

I ponder
I reflect
I wonder
If we are just
Too different.

I can try
Try to explain
Where I am coming from
Will you stand still
Long enough
To listen to my spiel?
Will you make allowances
For my lack
Of so many things?

Do you know I long
To be more like you?
To take action!
To take life by the horns!
But heretofore
I have avoided
And been denied
Opportunities
Thinking they would cost
Me too much
Or they would hurt.
Yes, I am shy
And reserved
When it comes
To some things.
But in other matters
My mind has soared!
Wanting so much more!

I guess your understanding
Is too much to ask.
Your lifestyle too fast paced.
I will be left here
Wondering
How it really is true
What they say
Oil and water
Do not mix.

But still there is
An inkling
Inside me
Chalk it up
To Rudyard Kipling
With his analogy
Of Never the twain
Shall meet
If one is East
And one is West.
Except they do
And can
Be cognizant
That differences
Can be strengths.

Euphoria Will O' The Wisp A Poem

When it comes again
That wonderful feeling
Euphoria
Will I savor it
Try to hang onto it
Knowing that I can't?

Will it slip
Away like the will o' the wisp?
Tantalizing me
To no end?

I can't say now
I can't say when
But euphoria will reappear
And I will sigh
It came back to me
It reappeared
It has not shied
Away for all time.

Euphoria composed
And comprised
Of such headiness
Lingers just long enough
To get us to trust
That life is not
All that bad.
That happiness
Is ours to be had.
If only in spurts.
But what a rush
Of endorphins!

Euphoria
With it's will o'
The wisplike quality
Is something we
By all means
Should seek
But know that
It will be ephemeral
And not for longevity.

Idyllic Tryst As Well As New Twists

I can imagine us
On a tropical island
The beauty of nature
All around us
Taking in the sites
Breathing in the scents.
Smiles almost constant.

My darling
Such an elevated mood
Now associated
With you.
I am experiencing
The best of life.
Love and the confluence
Of Nature's beauty
And bounty
Since all our other needs
Are being met.

I know this is not
Our everyday existence.
No, we live far enough away
So that getting to this place
Was a well planned excursion.
Yes, a vacation.
But such a bland term
Has no business
Being associated with
Our near nirvana.

And so my darling,
Our tryst
That was idyllic
And nearly perfect
This time has been
Memories to warm us
When we have
So much less.
But a smile
Can still be had
In our remembrance.

And a mention
That accompanied
By a hug as you
Come up behind me
And whisper in my ear.
"We will always have
Our island memories
That we can try to recreate.
Mmmmm, kissing
And touching
And pleasuring
With new twists.
Or we can just fuck
Like rabbits!"
And we laugh!

One With Each A Poem

Will you play with me?
Will you be silly?
Will you make me laugh?
So much so that
I am near breathless?
You see that is
Something that I miss.

Tender loving
And laughter
Which ever comes first
And then after.
Let's be ourselves
No airs put on
But still
So many thrills!
As we turn our senses
Into needles
That poke and prick
Us into arousal
All by being
One with each.

I see who you are
You see me
In all our glory
And vulnerability
And we exhibit
That playfulness
And tenderness
That equates
To being friends
And lovers.
As we are
One with each.

Friends That Make Us Laugh A Poem
Posted:Mar 16, 2019 10:20 pm
Last Updated:Mar 17, 2019 10:32 am
1885 Views

Someone told me
I am no longer doing
What I love best
I am not writing.
I used to write
Two or more poems daily.
Now I am lucky
To write one
Every other day.

Losing one's voice
Losing one's will
And strength
Is terrible
As I have no muse
Or inspiration.

But he, my friend
He is not dumb
He knows he might
Just start a fire
Under my ass!
Case in point
This little piece
Lamenting my
Sorrow filled
And sorry state.
He has tried
This tactic before
For other topics.
Like cleaning my house
And exercising
And indeed I do budge
With his push and nudge.

But sometimes
I get really pissed off!
Thinking his taunting
Just criticism
Not constructive
Just insults.
Then I tell him so.
I guess it all depends
On my mood that day.
Like in so many things
Moods determine
How much I do
And/or how little.

So I will thank my friend
You don't know how
How much fun
And laughs we have.
He is like a nephew
As he is like one in age.
There will never be
Anything sexual
That is for sure!
As he is not heterosexual!

I think we all need folks
That can see us at our best
And worst
And make us laugh
At our bad habits
And foibles.
And my friend
Does that for me
And I, vice versa!
